SUMMARY
The purpose of this enactment is to ensure that telephone, fax or Internet service is provided in a timely manner to the campaign offices of candidates in federal elections.

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. The Canada Elections Act is amended by adding the following after section 348:

Provision of services
348.1 Where the official agent of a candidate requests telephone, fax or Internet service for a campaign office of the candidate from a service provider that offers the service in the area where the office is located, the service provider shall provide the service:
(a) within five business days, if
(i) the request is made before the writ is issued, and
(ii) the writ is not issued within three days after the request; or
(b) within 48 hours after the writ is issued, in any other case.
2. Subsection 495(4) of the Act is amended by adding the following after paragraph (h):
(h.1) wilfully contravenes section 348.1 (failure to provide telephone, fax or Internet service in a timely manner);
