Meeting No. 2

Thursday, March 1, 2007

The Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament met at 1:00 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, for the purpose of electing a Joint Chair (House of Commons), pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

Members of the Committee present representing the Senate: The Honourable Senators Donald H. Oliver and Marilyn Trenholme Counsell.

Members of the Committee present representing the House of Commons: Blaine Calkins, Peter Goldring, Hon. Gurbax Malhi and Louis Plamondon.

Acting Members from the House of Commons present: Robert Carrier for Gérard Asselin, Hon. Albina Guarnieri for Hon. Jim Peterson, Hon. Marlene Jennings for Hon. Joe Comuzzi and Scott Simms for Hon. Gerry Byrne.

In attendance: Senate: Adam Thompson, Joint Clerk of the Committee . House of Commons: Louise M. Thibault, Procedural Clerk . Library of Parliament: James Robertson, Principal ; Lalita Acharya, Analyst.

The Acting Joint Clerk (House of Commons) presided over the election of a Joint Chair (House of Commons).

On motion of Blaine Calkins, it was agreed, — That Peter Goldring be elected Joint Chair (House of Commons).

The Acting Joint Clerk (House of Commons) presided over the election of a Vice-Chair.

On motion of Albina Guarnieri, it was agreed, — That Gurbax Malhi be elected Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Peter Goldring took the Chair.

At 1:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Joint Chairs.
