SUMMARY

The enactment amends the Contraventions Act to allow for the designation of certain criminal offences as contraventions and to specify that contraventions may be prosecuted by means of either a summons or ticket unless another Act of Parliament provides otherwise.

The enactment amends the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to create offences with respect to the possession of small amounts of cannabis (marihuana) and the production of cannabis (marihuana).

It also makes consequential amendments to other Acts.

Le texte modifie la Loi sur les contraventions en vue de permettre de qualifier certaines infractions criminelles de contraventions et précise que celles-ci peuvent être poursuivies par voie de sommation ou de procès-verbal à moins qu’une autre loi fédérale ne prévoie autrement.

Il modifie en outre la Loi réglementant certaines drogues et autres substances par la création d’infractions visant la possession de petites quantités de cannabis (marihuana) et la production du cannabis (marihuana).

Enfin, il apporte des modifications corrélatives à d’autres lois.
