This enactment amends the Textile Labelling Act to ensure that the label on every consumer textile article discloses the name and address of the factory in which the article was manufactured or made.

Le texte modifie la Loi sur l’étiquetage des textiles afin de rendre obligatoire l’indication, sur l’étiquetage de tout article textile de consommation, des nom et adresse de l’usine où il a été fabriqué ou confectionné.

An Act to amend the Textile Labelling Act

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Sa Majesté, sur l’avis et avec le consentement du Sénat et de la Chambre des communes du Canada, édicte :

1. Paragraphs 3(a) and (b) of the Textile Labelling Act are replaced by the following:

(a) a prescribed consumer textile article unless the article has applied to it a label containing

(i) a representation with respect to the textile fibre content of the article, and

(ii) a representation with respect to the name and address of the factory in which the consumer textile article was manufac- tured or made; or

(b) any consumer textile article that has applied to it a label containing a represen- tation with respect to the textile fibre content of the article and a representation with respect to the name and address of the factory in which the consumer textile article was manufactured or made, unless the label is applied to it in accordance with and complies with all applicable provisions of this Act.

1. Les alinéas 3a) et b) de la Loi sur l’étiquetage des textiles sont remplacés par ce qui suit :

a) d’un article textile de consommation désigné par règlement dont l’étiquetage ne précise pas :

(i) le contenu en fibres textiles,

(ii) les nom et adresse de l’usine où l’article a été fabriqué ou confectionné;

b) de tout article textile de consommation dont l’étiquetage, bien que précisant le contenu en fibres textiles et les nom et adresse de l’usine où l’article a été fabriqué ou confectionné, n’est pas conforme aux dispositions applicables de la présente loi ou n’est pas apposé conformément à celles-ci.

2. Paragraph 6(b) of the Act is amended by striking out the word “and” at the end of subparagraph (iii) and by adding the following after subparagraph (iii):

(iii.1) the name and address of the factory in which the consumer textile article was manufactured or made, and
