An Act respecting the effective date of the representation order of 2003

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

Effective date of representa-
tion order

1. Despite subsection 25(1) of the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act and the proclamation issued under that subsection on August 25, 2003 and registered as SI/2003-154, the representation order referred to in that proclamation is effective on the first dissolution of Parliament that occurs on or after April 1, 2004.

Amendment to the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act

2. On the later of the coming into force of this Act and section 23 of An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act and the Income Tax Act (political financing), being Chapter 19 of the Statutes of Canada, 2003, subsection 25(2) of the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act is replaced by the following:

Returning officers and electoral district associations

(2) For the purpose of authorizing and enabling, whenever required, the appointment of returning officers under section 24 of the Canada Elections Act or the registration of electoral district associations under subsection 403.22(4) of that Act, the representation order is deemed to be effective on the day on which the proclamation was issued.

Deemed coming into force

3. In the case of any proclamation issued in 2003 under subsection 25(1) of the Electoral Boundaries Readjustment Act, the order referred to in that proclamation is deemed, for the purposes of subsection 25(2) of that Act, as enacted by section 2 of this Act, to be effective on January 1, 2004.
