An Act to establish Verbal Abuse Prevention
Week
|

| Preamble
|
Whereas verbal abuse is a national
problem affecting communities throughout
Canada;
|
|
|
|
Whereas it is necessary to raise awareness
and to educate the abusers and the abused
about the detrimental effects of verbal abuse
on those who encounter it;
|
|
|
|
And Whereas it is essential to promote
safety and non-violent ways of behaving in
schools, workplaces and communities;
|
|
|
|
Now, Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the
advice and consent of the Senate and House of
Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

SHORT TITLE |
|
| Short title
|
1. This Act may be cited as the Verbal Abuse
Prevention Week Act.
|

2. Throughout Canada, in each and every
year, the first week of the month of October
shall be known as ``Verbal Abuse Prevention
Week''.
