An Act to amend the Corrections and Conditional Release Act (parole hearings)

1992, c. 20

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. Section 140 of the Corrections and Conditional Release Act is amended by adding, after subsection (6), the following:

Victim impact statement

(6.1) The Board shall, on the request of a victim of an offence, permit the victim to read a statement describing the harm done to, or loss suffered by, the victim arising from the commission of the offence, prepared and filed in accordance with subsection (6.2), or to present the statement in any other manner that the Board considers appropriate.

Presentation of statement

(6.2) A statement referred to in subsection (6.1) must be

    (a) prepared in writing in the form and in accordance with the procedures established by the Board; and

    (b) filed with the Board.
