SUMMARY

This enactment provides for consistency in the definition of ``child'', ``minor'', ``infant'' and ``adult'' in legislation, in cases where they are used to connote age.

This will ensure that these words are interpreted in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has been ratified by Canada. The Convention provides that ``child'' should be defined as a person who is less than eighteen years of age.
