An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act

2000, c. 9

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. Section 3 of the Canada Elections Act is replaced by the following:

Persons qualified as electors

3. Every person who is a Canadian citizen and is 16 years of age or older on polling day is qualified as an elector.

2. Subsection 22(5) of the Act is replaced by the following:

Exception

(5) In the case of an appointment that is to be made by a returning officer, if he or she is unable to appoint an election officer who meets the requirements set out in subsection (4), he or she may, with the approval of the Chief Electoral Officer, appoint a person who is qualified as an elector but does not live in the electoral district.
