An Act to prohibit the export of water from Canada by pipeline, railway tank car, tank truck, tanker or interbasin transfers

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

SHORT TITLE

Short title

1. This Act may be cited as the Canada Water Export Prohibition Act.

DEFINITION

Definition

2. For the purpose of this Act ``water'' means surface and ground water, but does not include water packaged as a beverage.

HER MAJESTY

Binding on Her Majesty

3. This Act is binding on Her Majesty in right of Canada or a province.

OFFENCE AND PUNISHMENT

Offence

4. Despite any other Act of Parliament, no person shall export water from Canada by pipeline, railway tank car, tank truck, tanker or interbasin transfers.

Punishment

5. Every one who contravenes section 4 is guilty of an offence and liable

    (a) on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding $75,000; or

    (b) on conviction by indictment, to a fine not exceeding $250,000.
