An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (warning labels regarding the consumption of alcohol)

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. The Food and Drugs Act is amended by adding the following after section 5:

Warning label

5.1 No person shall sell a beverage contain ing more than half of one per cent alcohol by volume unless it bears a clearly printed and legible label, in the form and print size prescribed by the Governor in Council, that warns the consumer that alcoholic beverages impair the ability to operate vehicles and machinery, may affect the health of the consumer and may cause birth defects if consumed during pregnancy .
