	*1. The Criminal Code* is amended by adding the following after section 244.1:**
Genital mutilation of female persons	244.2 A person who
	(a) excises or otherwise mutilates, in whole or in part, the labia majora, labia minora or clitoris of a female person, or
	(b) aids, abets, counsels or procures the performance by another person of any of the acts described in paragraph (a)
	is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.
	COMING INTO FORCE
Coming into force	2. This Act shall come into force 60 days after the day it is assented to.
