	An Act to commemorate the birthplace of Confederation
	Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
	SHORT TITLE
Short title	1. This Act may be cited as the Commemoration of the birthplace of Confederation Act.
	COMMEMORATION AND HISTORIC MUSEUMS
Powers and duties	2. The Minister of Canadian Heritage
	(a) shall, by means of plaques or in any other suitable manner, mark the sites and buildings where was held, prior to 1867, the Charlottetown Conference during which delegates from the Maritimes and from Canada agreed to form one union, the Dominion of Canada;
	(b) may otherwise arrange for the commemoration of the Charlottetown Conference and the formation of the Dominion of Canada;
	(c) may, with the approval of the Governor in Council, establish historic museums for the purposes set out in paragraph (b);
	(d) may, for the purposes set out in paragraphs (a) to (c), acquire, with the approval of the Treasury Board, on behalf of Her Majesty in right of Canada any lands or buildings, or any interest therein, by purchase, lease or otherwise;
	(e) shall provide for the administration, preservation and maintenance of the lands or buildings acquired and of the historic museums established pursuant to this Act; and
	(f) may enter into agreements with any person or body for the purposes set out in paragraph (e).
	FINANCIAL PROVISIONS
Authoriza- tion by Parliament	3. No payments shall be made out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund to defray any expenses necessary for the implementation of this Act without the authority of an appropriation made by Parliament for such purposes.
