SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to increase sentences for offences related to the importing and exporting of controlled drugs and substances.

An Act to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (punishment)

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1(1)The portion of paragraph 6(3)‍(a) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act before subparagraph (i) is replaced by the following:

  • (a)if the subject matter of the offence is a substance included in Schedule I in an amount that is not more than one kilogram, or in Schedule II, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for life, and to a minimum punishment of imprisonment for a term of Insertion start two years Insertion end if

(2)Paragraph 6(3)‍(a.‍1) of the Act is replaced by the following:

  • (a.‍1)if the subject matter of the offence is a substance included in Schedule I in an amount that is more than one kilogram, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for life and to a minimum punishment of imprisonment for a term of Insertion start three Insertion end years;
