SENATE OF CANADA |
BILL S-288 |
An Act respecting Inherited Blood Disorders Awareness Day |
Preamble
Whereas inherited blood disorders affect both the cellular and non-cellular components of blood;
Whereas cellular blood disorders affect red cells and platelets and may also affect cellular and non-cellular blood proteins, including clotting factors;
Whereas, while inherited blood disorders are observed in all ethnic groups, some blood disorders may be more prevalent within certain groups of Canadians;
Whereas it is important to expand efforts in Canada that advance new and innovative treatments for inherited blood disorders;
Whereas it is also important to advance advocacy initiatives to meet the needs of Canadians living with inherited blood disorders and to ensure their equal access to health care services no matter where they live in Canada;
Whereas bringing otherwise separate and unique rare inherited blood disorders under one umbrella will maximize visibility and advocacy for patients, many of whom belong to marginalized communities that do not have adequate access to medical care;
Whereas raising awareness will promote better care, treatment, research, capacity-building and education across Canada in relation to inherited blood disorders;
And whereas recognizing a inherited blood disorders awareness day will make Canada a world leader;
Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
