The Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament met at 9:20 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N Centre Block, the chair Carolyn Bennett, presiding.

Members of the Committee present representing the Senate: The Honourable Senators Michael J. Forrestall and Jean Lapointe.

Members of the Committee present representing the House of Commons: Carolyn Bennett, Robert Bertrand, Marlene Catterall, Marcel Gagnon, Wendy Lill, Jerry Pickard, Jacques Saada and Carol Skelton.

Acting Members from the House of Commons present: Benoît Sauvageau for Louis Plamondon.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lalita Acharya, Analyst ; James Robertson, Principal.

Witnesses: Library of Parliament: George Bowering, Parliamentary Poet Laureate; Jean Baird, Agent.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(4)(a), the Committee commenced a study of the position of Parliamentary Poet Laureate, the holder of which is an officer of the Library of Parliament.

George Bowering made a statement and with Jean Baird answered questions.

At 10:19 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
