The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Co-Chairs, The Hon. Shirley Maheu and Mauril Bélanger, presiding.
Members of the Committee present:
From The Senate : The Hon. Gérald A. Beaudoin, The Hon. Jean-Robert Gauthier, The Hon. Viola Léger and The Hon. Shirley Maheu.
From the House of Commons : Mauril Bélanger, Yvon Godin, John Herron, Scott Reid, Benoît Sauvageau and Yolande Thibeault.
In attendance: From the Senate: Tonu Onu, Co-Clerk of the Committee. From the House of Commons :Jean-François Pagé, Co-Clerk of the Committee. From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the « Fédération des associations de juristes d'expression française de common law »: Gérard Lévesque, Executive Director; Tory Colvin, President. From the University of Ottawa: André Braën, Law Professor; Joe Eliot Magnet, Law Professor.
In accordance with Standing Order 108(4)b), the Committee resumed its study on clause 41 of the Official Languages Act.
The witnesses made statements and answered questions.
