MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 5

Tuesday, October 20, 1998

The Standing Joint Committee on the Library of Parliament met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, to elect Joint Chairs, pursuant to Rule 88 of the Senate and Standing Order 106(1) of the House of Commons.

Members of the Committee present:

Representing the Senate: Eymard G. Corbin, Normand Grimard and Louis J. Robichaud.

Representing the House of Commons: Roy Bailey, Marlene Catterall, John Finlay, Gurbax Malhi and Paul Mercier.

Acting Membes present: Richard Harris for Philip Mayfield and Claudette Bradshaw for Brent St.Denis.

 The Joint Clerk (Senate) presided over the election of a Senate Co-chair.

Senator Robichaud moved, - That Senator Eymard Corbin be elected Joint Chair of the Committee (Senate).

And the question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

The Joint Clerk declared that Senator Eymard Corbin was duly elected Joint Chair of the Committee (Senate).

The Joint Clerk (House of Commons) presided over the election of the Joint Chair (House of Commons).

Marlene Catterall moved, - That Gurbax Malhi be elected Joint Chair of the Committee (House of Commons).

And the question being put on the motion it was agreed to.

The Joint Clerk declared that Gurbax Malhi was duly elected Joint Chair of the Committee (House of Commons).

Dick Harris moved, - That Roy Bailey be Vice-Chair of this Committee (House of Commons).

And the question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

 At 11:09 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
