An Act to establish National Local Food Day

Preamble

Whereas Canada’s national sovereignty is dependent on the safety and security of our food supply;

Whereas strengthening the connection between consumers and producers of Canadian food contributes to our nation’s social, environmental and economic well-being;

Whereas supporting local farmers contributes to a sustainable Canadian agricultural industry;

And whereas the people of Canada will benefit from a national local food day to celebrate food as one of the most elemental characteristics of all of the cultures that populate this nation;

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1This Act may be cited as the National Local Food Day Act.

2Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the Friday before Thanksgiving Day is to be known as “National Local Food Day”.

Not a legal holiday

3For greater certainty, National Local Food Day is not a legal holiday or a non-juridical day.
