An Act to establish National Appreciation Day
Preamble
Whereas members of the Canadian Forces and emergency response professionals, including police officers, firefighters and paramedics, risk their lives every day to rescue, protect and care for people in Canada and throughout the world;
And whereas the Parliament of Canada wishes to recognize their immense contribution to society and to express the appreciation of the Canadian people for their heroic efforts;
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the National Appreciation Day Act.
NATIONAL APPRECIATION DAY
National Appreciation Day
2. Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the third day of March is to be known as “National Appreciation Day” in recognition of the contribution to society made by members of the Canadian Forces and emergency response professionals, including police officers, firefighters and paramedics.
Not a legal holiday
3. For greater certainty, National Appreciation Day is not a legal holiday or a non-juridical day.
