An Act to amend the Canada Elections Act (polling hours)

      Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1. Subsection 105(5) of the Canada Elections Act is replaced by the following:

Hours of polling

(5) Where an election is held under this Act,

    (a) every polling station in Newfoundland shall open at eleven-thirty o'clock in the forenoon and remain open until eleven-thirty o'clock in the evening of the same day;

    (b) every polling station in every other province shall remain open for a twelve-hour period ending at eleven-thirty o'clock in the evening, Newfoundland time; and

    (c) each deputy returning officer shall, during the twelve-hour period referred to in paragraphs (a) and (b), in the polling station assigned to him, receive in the manner prescribed in this Act the votes of the electors qualified to vote at the polling station.
