5. The Immigration Act is amended by adding the following after section 11:

tion

11.1 (1) In this section, ``sexually transmitted disease'' means syphilis, gonorrhoea, HIV, AIDS and any other disease that is prescribed by the regulations for the purposes of this section.

Testing of applicants

(2) Every person who applies for landing or to be a Convention refugee or for a Minister's permit to enter or remain in Canada or a permit issued by the Minister pursuant to section 37 shall be tested for sexually transmitted diseases in the manner provided by the regulations.

Persons advised of result of test

(3) The results of every test administered pursuant to subsection (2) shall be given to the applicant and to every officer and other person or body who, under this Act, has the power to determine whether the application will be granted.

Counselling and treatment

(4) Where an application for landing or to be a Convention refugee or for a Minister's permit issued pursuant to section 37 to enter or remain in Canada is granted to a person with a sexually transmitted disease, the Minister shall ensure that the applicant is given counselling on the disease, its ransmission and treatment and the prevention of transmission, and may require the applicant to receive medical treatment of the disease as a condition of the application being granted and to provide the Minister with information on the applicant's health for a period following the approval of the application in the form prescribed by the regulations.
