Visit of the Honourable Leo Housakos, Speaker of the Senate, Toronto, Ontario
On September 14 and 15, 2015, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable Leo Housakos, made an official visit to Toronto. The Speaker was accompanied by Ms. Jacqui Delaney, Communications Advisor to the Office of the Speaker.
In Toronto, Speaker Housakos visited Queen’s Park. This was Speaker Housakos’ first official visit to Queen’s Park, where he was received by the Honourable Dave Levac, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario and given a tour of the building. He later attended Question Period as a guest in the Speaker’s Gallery. Speaker Housakos then met with Speaker Levac, where they discussed several issues including parliamentary privilege.
The Speaker’s visit to Queen’s Park was an opportunity to meet a counterpart from one of the Canadian Legislative Assembly as part of his continued role in parliamentary diplomacy and efforts to develop and maintain strong relationships with other parliaments in Canada and abroad on matters of mutual interest and concern.
Also while in Toronto, Speaker Housakos met with a number of international media outlets to discuss his recent participation in the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
