Participation of the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, C.M., O.M., Speaker of the Senate, to the 10th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit, Brasilia, Federative Republic of Brazil
From November 6 to 8, 2024, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, O.M, C.M., and her delegation, participated in the G20 Parliamentary Forum: Towards implementing the recommendations of the First Meeting of the P20 Women Parliamentarians, and the Tenth G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit in Brasilia, Federative Republic of Brazil. Accompanying the Speaker were Shaila Anwar, Clerk of the Senate; Sarah Boukhouali, International Affairs Advisor, Office of the Speaker; and Vanessa Moss-Norbury, Secretary to the Delegation.
The G20 forum included working sessions on “Promoting climate justice and sustainable development from a gender and race perspective”, “Women in Power, Increasing female representation in decision-making spaces, and “Fighting gender and race inequalities and promoting women’s economic autonomy”.
The P20 conference working sessions addressed the topics of “The contribution of parliaments to the fight against hunger, poverty and inequality”, “The role of parliaments in promoting sustainable development”, and “Parliaments in the construction of global governance adapted to the challenges of the 21st century.
Speaker Gagné was also pleased to hold bilateral meetings with several of her counterparts, including the host Speakers from both Chambers of the Brazilian Congress.
