Participation of the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Parliamentary Summit, Washington, D.C., United States of America
On July 8 and 9, 2024, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., participated in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Parliamentary Summit in Washington, D.C., United States of America.
The summit, hosted by the U.S. Congressional Leadership along with the U.S. Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, was attended by parliamentary leaders from the 32 NATO members and Ukraine, including 25 Speakers and Deputy Speakers.
The event, held ahead of the 2024 NATO Summit of Allied Heads of State and Government, allowed participants to share their parliaments’ views on NATO’s key priorities, including “support for Ukraine, strengthened deterrence and defence and addressing the growing authoritarian threat”. Furthermore, it highlighted the importance of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
During the summit, the Speaker had the opportunity to conduct bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other legislatures.
