Participation of the Honorable Raymonde Gagné, Speaker of the Senate, at the First Meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, and the First Meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Fifteenth Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) , Geneva, Switzerland
On May 16 and 17, 2024, the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, participated in First Meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, and the First Meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the Fifteenth Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Geneva, Switzerland. The preparatory meeting for the Sixth World Conference was attended by Speakers nominated from the geopolitical groups of the IPU and the IPU Executive Committee. The Preparatory Committee for the Fifteenth Summit of Women Speakers is composed of the women members of the Preparatory Committee of the Speakers Conference.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union has held its high-level World Conference of Speakers of Parliament approximately every five years since the event was inaugurated in August 2000. On several occasions, the IPU has also organized Summits of Women Speakers of Parliament to coincide with the World Conference.
The preparatory meetings provided the participants with an opportunity to engage with fellow Speakers and discuss matters relating to the time and venue of the 2025 Speakers’ Conference, its main objective, general format, themes, and expected outcomes.
