Visit to Ottawa of the Honourable Nathan Cooper, M.L.A., Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta
On February 20, 2024, the Honourable Nathan Cooper, M.L.A., Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, conducted a working visit to Ottawa. The Speaker was accompanied by Ms. Shannon Dean, KC, Clerk of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Ms. Lianne Bell, Chief of Staff to the Speaker, and Mr. Andrew Koning, Parliamentary and Engagement Coordinator.
In Ottawa, the delegation met with the following officials:
- The Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons;
- Gérald Lafrenière, Interim Clerk of the Senate and Clerk of the Parliaments, and Chief Legislative Services Officer;
- Eric Janse, Clerk of the House of Commons;
- Stéphan Aubé, Deputy Clerk, Administration (Acting), House of Commons;
- Patrick McDonnell, Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Commons;
- Amélie Crosson, Director of Communications, Office of the Speaker of the House of Commons; and
- Miriam Fleury, Head, Corporate Corporations, House of Commons.
As part of this visit, some members of the delegation also had side meetings with officials of the Senate and House of Commons concerning their respective areas of expertise.
The working visit provided an opportunity to exchange best practices on security for parliamentarians and communications, to discuss issues of mutual interest and strengthen bilateral relations between the Parliament of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
