Participation of the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, to the 75th Anniversary of the Commonwealth of Nations, United Kingdom
On March 10 and 11, 2024, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., attended the 75th Anniversary of the Commonwealth of Nations - Special Celebration and Summit, in London, United Kingdom.
The event, hosted by the Speaker of the UK House of Commons, was attended by speakers and presiding officers from 31 different Commonwealth countries. Together, they engaged in conversations and participated in protocol-related activities meant to celebrate this milestone, and reflected on the role their respective democratic institutions play in shaping the association that is the Commonwealth.
Following two days of conversation and celebration, the attending speakers and presiding officers adopted a special 75th anniversary communiqué outlining their support and commitment to the Commonwealth, as well as its core values and principles.
During the event, the Speaker conducted bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other Commonwealth legislatures.
