The
parliamentary delegation of the Canadian Branch of the Assemblée
parlementaire de la Francophonie (APF) that attended the 63rd
Congress of the Association canadienne d’éducation de langue française
(ACELF), which was held from September 30 to October 2, 2010, in Charlottetown,
Prince Edward Island, on the topic of “Our Changing Cultural Identity,” has the
honour to present its report.
The
delegation was made up of the Hon. Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, Senator and
Chair of the APF Network of Women Parliamentarians. The Quebec Branch of the
APF was also present.
The Canadian
Branch of the APF attended this seminar as a member of the Americas Region of
the APF, which is a member of the ACELF. The ACELF uses innovative and
effective initiatives to offer stakeholders in Francophone education a vision,
professional training and tools for identity building.
The agenda
for the Congress was wide-ranging and inspiring. Topics included existing and
innovative ways to encourage integrating arts and culture in schools; community
involvement to support building a Francophone identity for youth; and what
happens when various cultures meet.
The 425
people who attended the Congress had the opportunity to hear from Ms. Angèle
Arsenault, an Acadian artist; Ms. Christine Dallaire, a professor at the
University of Ottawa; and Mr. Alexandre Trudeau, a journalist and documentary
film-maker, among other speakers.
The Canadian Branch of the APF would like to recognize the financial
support from the Americas Region of the APF for this important mission.
Respectfully submitted,
Rose-Marie Losier-Cool,
Senator
Member of the Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la
Francophonie (APF)
