Plastic pollution can alter habitats and natural processes, reducing ecosystems' ability to adapt to climate change, affecting millions of people's livelihoods, food production capabilities and social well-being at large. Building on the momentum of the United Nations resolution adopted in March 2022 to end plastic pollution and forge an international legally binding agreement by 2024, this meeting explored how this global plastic treaty can help parliaments in creating legislation and support new collaborative complementary actions to reduce plastic production and foster a circular plastics economy.

CAPF Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie

On May 23, the Permanent Delegation of the APF Bureau—consisting of Francis Drouin, President; Bruno Fuchs, Parliamentary Secretary General; Faustin Boukoubi, First Vice-President; Mars Di Bartolomeo, Treasurer; and the six Vice-Presidents—met by videoconference. Participants discussed upcoming major APF meetings and international events in 2023, such as the 48th Session of the APF, the Regional Francophone Youth Parliament in Benin and the Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie in Yaoundé. Discussions also touched on updating the budget to account for new resources and revising APF regulations when future statutes are adopted.

CANA Canadian NATO Parliamentary Association

The Bureau’s main function is to ensure the overall guidance and coherence of the Assembly’s policies and activities in the interval between meetings of the Standing Committee; it also acts as the “first responder” when internal or external events require a decision or statement by the Assembly

During the Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, parliamentarians from NATO member countries and partner nations meet to study draft reports and hear from government representatives, NATO officials, and experts on a wide range of issues concerning the Alliance.

CAAF Canada-Africa Parliamentary Association

On May 18, 2023, the Canada-Africa Parliamentary Association, in collaboration with Mosaïque Interculturelle, held a reception to mark its 20th anniversary and celebrate Africa Day. The event brought together parliamentarians, members of the African diplomatic corps, and distinguished guests, including members of the African diaspora in Canada. The reception began with opening remarks by the Association's Co-Chairs, The honourableAmina Gerba, Senator and Ms. Brenda Shanahan, M.P., who paid warm tribute to the Association's co-founders, former Senator Raynell Andreychuk and the late Mauril Bélanger, M.P., whose vision and passion for Africa led to the creation of an official association. They also underlined the growing consolidation of ties between Canada and Africa, while acknowledging the confidence and ingenuity shown by Africans in managing the continent's rapid changes. The event offered a unique cultural experience, enabling parliamentarians and guests to discover the many traditions and perspectives of the African continent through musical performances, pan-African cuisine showcasing the richness of African gastronomy, and art exhibitions.
