Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association

Report

From 12–14 May 2024, Senator David Wells, Vice-Chair of the Canada–Europe Parliamentary Association (CAEU), participated in the 37th German-Canadian Conference in Berlin, Germany.

While CAEU has not historically participated in the conference, the association executive voted unanimously, on 2 May 2024, to send Senator Wells on its behalf. It did so in recognition of the important role the event plays in strengthening German-Canadian relations and with the caveat that the executive would not support similar activities going forward.

Background on the German-Canadian Conference

The German-Canadian Conference is an annual event organized by Atlantik-Bruecke Canada – a not-for-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to the development of positive relations between Germany and Canada – and Atlantik-Brücke, its partner organization.

The conference brings together German and Canadian politicians, business leaders, journalists, and academics to discuss areas of mutual concern, such as defence and security, the environment, and innovation.
