CANADIAN PARLIAMENTARIANS MEET WITH U.S. AMBASSADOR KELLY CRAFT

On 18 April 2018, members of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Section of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (IPG) had their first meeting with the United States’ current Ambassador to Canada, the Honorable Kelly Craft. Ambassador Craft was accompanied by selected staff from the U.S. Department of State.

The Honourable Wayne Easter, P.C., M.P., House of Commons Co-Chair of the Canadian Section, said: “We very much appreciated the time that Ambassador Craft took to meet with the IPG’s Executive Committee. We discussed a range of bilateral issues that are currently top of mind in what I think we all agree is a critical relationship. For example, dairy trade, the new U.S. Farm Bill, trade corridors and integrated supply chains, the North American Free Trade Agreement and border crossings – including at Detroit, Michigan–Windsor, Ontario – were among the topics that were highlighted.”

“Certainly, it is important that IPG members have an opportunity for regular discussions with the United States’ chief representative in Canada,” concluded Senator Michael L. MacDonald, the Canadian Section’s Senate Co-Chair. “We hope that Ambassador Craft recognizes Canada for what it is: the United States’ greatest ally, and a country that shares many of the same goals, including security and prosperity. As we noted at our meeting, when the United States succeeds, Canada succeeds too. I know everyone on the IPG’s Executive Committee looks forward to a productive working relationship with Ambassador Craft.”
