Canada to host parliamentarians from the Americas and the Caribbean in Victoria, B.C., to promote inclusive societies

(VICTORIA, British Columbia), Wednesday, September 5, 2018– Parliamentarians from the national legislatures of the Americas and the Caribbean will meet for the 15th ParlAmericas Plenary Assembly in Victoria, B.C., from September 10 to 12, 2018.

This year’s Plenary Assembly will have Promoting Inclusive Societies for Sustainable Development as its theme. Sessions will focus on accessible and equitable labour markets, advancing Indigenous women’s leadership, and migration and integration.

The Honourable George J. Furey, Speaker of the Senate of Canada and the Honourable Geoff Regan, Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons will host this conference on behalf of the Parliament of Canada. The Honourable Bob Nault, P.C., M.P., Chair of ParlAmericas Canadian Section and Vice-President of ParlAmericas, will chair the event, which will be attended by Canadian Members of Parliament, Senators, and parliamentarians from 30 countries across the Americas.

The Plenary Assembly is ParlAmericas’ highest decision-making body and represents the annual general meeting of its members. It convenes to discuss hemispheric issues and, through elections, to fill vacancies on ParlAmericas 22-member Board of Directors.
