CANADIAN SECTION OF THE CANADA–U.S. INTER-PARLIAMENTARY GROUP
SENDS CONDOLENCES ON THE DEATH OF ARIZONA
SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN
“It was with profound sadness that, like people throughout the world, Canadians learned about the passing of U.S. Senator John McCain, just one day after it was announced that he was discontinuing his cancer treatments,” said the Honourable Wayne Easter, P.C., M.P., Co-Chair of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group. “Certainly, our hearts go out to Senator McCain’s family and friends, and – indeed – to all Americans, at what can only be described as a difficult time. For some, Senator McCain was a national treasure who they shared with the world.”
Senator Michael L. MacDonald, Co-Chair of the Canada–United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, concluded: “In agreeing with my colleague, I would note that – when he was able to do so – Senator McCain took the time to meet with members of the Inter-Parliamentary Group’s Canadian Section when they were on Capitol Hill for meetings. He did so most recently in March 2017, when a range of issues were discussed. Senator McCain rather consistently made positive comments about our bilateral relationship, and his annual attendance at NATO’s conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia is well known.”
The Canada–United States IPG aims to find points of convergence in respective national policies, to initiate dialogue on points of divergence, to encourage the exchange of information, and to promote better understanding among legislators on shared issues of concern.
