Participation of the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, to the Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), Guernsey
From January 9 to 11, 2025, the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, participated in the Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), in Guernsey.
The Standing Committee oversees CSPOC activities. It is composed of 15 members, with five members constituting a quorum. The Committee is chaired by the Speaker of the lower House of the jurisdiction hosting the next conference.
The mandate of the Standing Committee is to:- decide dates, venues and procedures of the next Conference;
- propose subjects for discussion at the next Conference and to prepare a Draft Agenda;
- review the Standing Rules and to propose, as it deems necessary, draft amendments to the Rules for the consideration of the Conference; and
- consider all matters concerning the organisation and conduct of the Conference, including financial arrangements.
CSPOC brings together the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the national parliaments of the independent sovereign states of the Commonwealth.
