Participation of the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, to the 22nd Meeting of the Speakers of the Lower Houses of the G7, Verona, Italy

 

From September 5 to 7, 2024, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., participated in the 22nd Meeting of the Speakers of the Lower Houses of the G7 in Verona, Italy.

In addition to the G7 Presiding Officers in attendance, Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Ms. Tulia Ackson, Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania and President of the Interparliamentary Union, were invited to attend.

The meeting included working sessions on the topics of “Security and Development: new geopolitical balances and access to strategic resources”, “The G7 for Africa and the Mediterranean: the common challenges of stability and growth” and “Artificial Intelligence, Cyber-Security and the Protection of National Interests: the Role of Parliaments in the Digital Transition”.

Other program elements included bilateral meetings with counterparts from other G7 legislatures and cultural activities highlighting Verona’s unique heritage.
