Participation of the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons, to the 40th Canadian Presiding Officers' Conference (CPOC), Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly, Yellowknife
On Jan. 18 and 19, 2024, the Honourable Raymonde Gagné, Speaker of the Senate, and the Honourable Greg Fergus, P.C., M.P., participated in the 40th Canadian Presiding Officers' Conference (CPOC) in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. They were accompanied by Mr. Gérald Lafrenière, Interim Clerk of the Senate and Clerk of the Parliaments, and Chief Legislative Services Officer, and Mr. Eric Janse, Clerk of the House of Commons.
The conference was also attended by Speakers, or their designates, from each of the ten provinces and the three territories of Canada. This event afforded the Canadian speakers the opportunity to engage in frank dialogue on important issues facing each of their legislatures, including reconciliation, and order and decorum. Speaker Gagné also gave a presentation on the evolution of the Senate.
