On June 6, 2022, the Speaker of the House of Commons made a statement on the similarities between Bill C-243 and Bill S-211, and under the provisions of Standing Order 94(1), ordered that the status of Bill C-243 remain pending and that it not be called for its second hour of debate.

On May 11, 2023, the Speaker of the House of Commons ordered that the order for the second reading of Bill C-243 be discharged and that the bill be dropped from the Order Paper.
