SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Food and Drugs Act to provide that regulations may be made with respect to the addition of a machine-readable code, such as a Quick Response code, providing prescribed mandatory information and supplementary product information to the label of all foods, drugs, cosmetics, devices and therapeutic products.

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1This Act may be cited as the Modernizing Access to Product Information Act.

Food and Drugs Act

2Subsection 30(1) of the Food and Drugs Act is amended by adding the following after paragraph (b):

  • Start of inserted block

    (b.‍1)respecting the addition on the label of all foods, drugs, cosmetics, devices and therapeutic products of a machine-readable code, such as a Quick Response code, providing prescribed mandatory information found on the label, as well as supplementary product information intended to inform the purchaser or the consumer about the nutritional content, if applicable, and health risks or benefits of the product;
