An Act respecting Jury Duty Appreciation Week

Preamble

Whereas jury duty is a civic duty that thousands of Canadians are called upon to perform every year;

Whereas jury duty is a vital component of our justice system and our democracy;

Whereas the well-being and mental health of jurors are paramount to the proper functioning of our justice system;

And whereas designating a week dedicated to the appreciation of jury duty will highlight the work that jurors do and will help to educate citizens, organizations, the justice system as a whole, and the provincial and federal governments about the issues involved in fulfilling this civic duty;

His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

2Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the second week of May shall be known as “Jury Duty Appreciation Week”.
