Preamble
Whereas Canada’s national sovereignty is dependent on the safety and security of our food supply;
Whereas strengthening connections from farms to tables of Canadian cuisine contributes to our nation’s social, environmental and economic well-being;
Whereas supporting local farmers contributes to a sustainable Canadian food system;
And whereas the people of Canada will benefit from a food day in Canada to celebrate local food as one of the most elemental characteristics of all of the cultures that populate this nation;
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Food Day in Canada Act.

2 Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the Saturday before the first Monday in August is to be known as “Food Day in Canada”.
