SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Canada National Parks Act to

(a)allow a local government body to exercise powers in relation to land use planning and development in the town of Jasper as provided in an agreement applicable to that town; and

(b)provide that certain regulations do not apply to the town of Jasper once a municipal by-law applicable to that town respecting land use planning and development comes into force.

An Act to amend the Canada National Parks Act

2000, c. 32

His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

1Section 9 of the Canada National Parks Act is replaced by the following:

Park communities

9Powers in relation to land use planning and development in park communities may not be exercised by a local government body, except as provided in the agreement referred to in section 35 Insertion start and the Agreement for the Establishment of Local Government in the Town of Jasper between Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada and the Municipality of Jasper, signed by the Minister and the Chairperson of the Jasper Town Committee on June 13 and 25, 2001, respectively, as amended from time to time Insertion end .

2The Act is amended by adding the following after section 35:

Town of Jasper — non-application of regulations

35.‍1The following regulations do not apply in respect of the town of Jasper beginning on the day on which a municipal by-law applicable to that town respecting land use planning and development comes into force:
  • (a)the Town of Jasper Zoning Regulations;

  • (b)the National Parks Building Regulations;

  • (c)the National Parks Signs Regulations; and

  • (d)any regulation made under this Act that repeals the regulations referred to in paragraphs (a) to (c).
