SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Criminal Code to require a court to make an order prohibiting an individual from possessing a weapon for a specified period if the individual is convicted of an indictable offence in the commission of which violence against a person was used, threatened or attempted, regardless of the length of the term of imprisonment to which the individual may be sentenced.

His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:

R.‍S.‍, c. C-46

Criminal Code

1Paragraph 109(1)‍(a) of the Criminal Code is replaced by the following:

  • (a)an indictable offence in the commission of which violence against a person was used, threatened or attempted,
