Preamble
Whereas abundant scientific research in the past decade has underscored the vital role of vitamin D in boosting immune response and reducing the risk of serious diseases, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, multiple sclerosis and viral infections such as the flu;
Whereas municipal proclamations declaring November 2 Vitamin D Day have been adopted by cities across Canada from Vancouver to St. John’s;
Whereas improving the health of Canadians and reducing the burden of illness on Canadian families and our health care system is in the national interest;
And whereas declaring November 2 National Vitamin D Day will further public knowledge, discussion and use of a cost-effective personal health measure;
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the National Vitamin D Day Act.
NATIONAL VITAMIN D DAY
National Vitamin D Day
2. Throughout Canada, in each and every year, November 2 is to be known as “National Vitamin D Day”.
Not a legal holiday
3. For greater certainty, National Vitamin D Day is not a legal holiday or a non-juridical day.
