SUMMARY
This enactment amends the Employment Insurance Act to extend the maximum period for which special benefits for illness, injury or quarantine may be paid from 15 weeks to 50 weeks. It also eliminates the two-week waiting period when special benefits for illness, injury or quarantine are paid.

1996, c. 23
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
1. Paragraph 12(3)(c) of the Employment Insurance Act is replaced by the following:
(c) because of a prescribed illness, injury or quarantine is 50; and
2. Section 13 of the Act is renumbered as subsection 13(1) and is amended by adding the following:
Exception
(2) The waiting period referred to in subsection (1) does not apply in respect of a prescribed illness, injury or quarantine.
3. Paragraph 152.14(2)(c) of the Act is replaced by the following:
(c) because of a prescribed illness, injury or quarantine is 50; and
