An Act to establish a National Infant and Child Loss Awareness Day
Whereas many Canadian parents and families have suffered the terrible tragedy of the death of an infant or child;
Whereas all parents and families who lose an infant or child deserve and require support and understanding during their period of grief;
And whereas bringing national attention to the challenges faced by those parents and families is a positive means of establishing greater support and understanding for the needs of grieving Canadians;
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
SHORT TITLE
Short title
1. This Act may be cited as the National Infant and Child Loss Awareness Day Act.
NATIONAL INFANT AND CHILD LOSS AWARENESS DAY
National Infant and Child Loss Awareness Day
2. Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the 15th day of October shall be known as “National Infant and Child Loss Awareness Day”.
Not a legal holiday
3. For greater certainty, National Infant and Child Loss Awareness Day is not a legal holiday or a non-juridical day.
