The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Mauril Bélanger, presiding.
Member(s) of the Committee present:
From the Senate: The Hon. Joan Fraser, the Hon. Jean-Robert Gauthier, the Hon. Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, the Hon. Jean-Claude Rivest and the Hon. Raymond C. Setlakwe.
From the House of Commons: Mauril Bélanger, Eugène Bellemare, Gérard Binet, Claude Drouin, Yvon Godin, Benoît Sauvageau and Yolande Thibeault.
In attendance:
From the Senate: Tonu Onu, Co-Clerk of the Committee. From the House of Commons: Jean-François Pagé, Co-Clerk of the Committee. From the Library of Parliament: Robert Asselin, researcher, Library of Parliament; Françoise Coulombe.
Witness(es): From the Canadian Commission of Tourism: Jim Watson, President of the Canadian Commission of Tourism; Pierre Gauthier, Director of Communications and Chantal Péan, Vice-President, Informations and Corporate Secretary.
In accordance with Standing Order 108 (1a) (2), a study on the bilingual services offered by Air Canada.
Jim Watson made an opening statement and with Chantal Péan and Pierre Gauthier answered questions.
At 4:41, the Co-chair called Vote 25 under PRIVY COUNCIL.
By unanimous consent, Vote 25 carried,
ORDERED, -That the Chair report Vote 25 under Privy Council in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31 2001 to the House.
By unanimous consent, it was agreed that, -IT IS RESOLVED that the Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages express the wish that the government consider the advisability of increasing funding for the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages.
At 4:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
