SUMMARY

This enactment amends the Employment Insurance Act and increases from 10 to 37 the number of weeks for which employment insurance benefits may be paid because the claimant is caring for one or more new-born children of the claimant or one or more children placed with the claimant for the purpose of adoption.

These weeks of employment insurance benefits may be shared between the father and mother of the new-born or the child and are in addition to the 15 weeks of benefits to which the mother is already entitled because of pregnancy.
