SUMMARY

The main purposes of this enactment are to

    (a) increase the salaries and allowances payable to members of Parliament by two per cent per year, from January 1, 1998 until December 31 of the year the 36th Parliament is dissolved;

    (b) permit members of the House of Commons to elect to have the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act recommence to apply to them; and

    (c) provide for the payment of a supplementary severance allowance to members of the House of Commons to whom the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act does not apply.
