The Standing Joint Committee on Official Languages met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, The Hon. Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present:

Representing the Senate:: The Hon. Gérald A. Beaudoin, The Hon. Joan Fraser, The Hon. Rose-Marie Losier-Cool, The Hon. Jean-Claude Rivest, The Hon. Louis Robichaud.

Representing the House of Commons: The Hon. Sheila Finestone, Peter Goldring, Ted McWhinney, Denis Paradis, The Hon. Andy Scott, Angela Vautour.

Acting Member(s) present: Pierre de Savoye for Louis Plamondon

In attendance: From the Senate: Tonu Onu, Co-Clerk of the Committee. From the Library of Parliament: Françoise Coulombe.

Witness(es): From the "Fédération des communautés Francophones et Acadienne du Canada": Gino LeBlanc, President; Paul-André Baril, Representative for the Interministerial File; Micheline Doiron, Policy Analyst and Researcher. From the "Association canadienne-française de l'Ontario": Trèva Cousineau, President, Linda Savard, President-Director General, "Chambre économique de l'Ontario".

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(4)(b), the Committee resumed its study on the application of Part VII of the Official Languages Act.

Gino LeBlanc made an opening statement and with Paul-André Baril answered questions.

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:55 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Trèva Cousineau and Linda Savard each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
